A ₺320 million investment plans a new anechoic chamber, a GaN laboratory and 200 additional engineering posts.
Sancar Defence Electronics has decided to invest in expanding the indoor area of its R&D and test center in Gölbaşı, Ankara, from 22,000 m² to 40,000 m². The total investment was announced as ₺320 million, with construction targeted for completion within 18 months.
New facilities
The expansion will include a second anechoic chamber (24×14×10 m), an independent GaN semiconductor module laboratory, an ESD-protected assembly area for digital board design and a new open-field radar test range. The new anechoic chamber will allow antenna and radar cross-section measurements up to 40 GHz.
Employment
The centre plans to employ 200 engineers over the next two years. Applications for positions in RF, signal processing, embedded software, mechanical and test engineering are accepted through our careers page. The company offers summer internships to 60 students and scholarships to 10 students each year.
Academic collaboration
The new centre will host 14 R&D projects carried out jointly with universities. Shared laboratory space and knowledge-sharing sessions are planned for PhD students. At least 25 scientific publications a year are targeted under this collaboration.
Environmental sustainability
A rooftop solar power plant on the new buildings will cover 35% of electricity demand. A cooling-water recovery system will cut laboratory water consumption by 40%. The building is designed with a LEED Gold certification target.
From management
Chief Technology Officer Dr. Nilüfer Sezgin summarised the purpose of the investment: "Test infrastructure is one of the most strategic assets of a defence electronics company. The new facilities will let us qualify our own products faster and serve other companies in the sector."
Timetable
A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for next month and delivery of the first section in 12 months.
Economic impact
The investment is expected to create about ₺90 million a year in additional orders for local subcontractors. Services will be procured from 25 local firms in Ankara during construction. With the completion of the center, one of the region's largest R&D employment areas for master's and PhD graduates will be created.
Security and infrastructure
The new facility is designed to critical-infrastructure security standards. Dual power feeds, generator backup, a closed-circuit secure network and physical access control systems will be applied throughout.
